The new shape of denim – high street road test part II

Double denim but not as we know it…  because the top half is red.  Seriously though, I used to have something of a serious penchant for the double d and it has been far too long.  In short, I’m diggin’ it again.

Second in the wide leg denim series is this Zara pair.  In truth, they were the very first pair I bought.  I took them out the box, tried them on and basically did not take them off for four days straight.  So, you will gather, I like them.  And here’s why…  Just like the first pair I reviewed from Next, these are also an excellent fit.  Usually in Zara I fall somewhere between an 8 and a 10 so I ordered both sizes but in a rather lovely twist of fate the 8 was spot on.  They sit high and they’re not stretchy but the comfort level is surprisingly good and the denim is super soft (yeah, so soft I put a kitten heel right through one of the hems on day two…).  They’re £39.99.  Again, they are the perfect length – floor skimming with flats and just as you see them with heels.  And the back pockets are well situated and proportioned and by that I mean small and high because large and low pockets on anything high waisted almost always results in a serious case of long bottom.  So, another winner.

I paired them with the Gap jacket because, whilst my mini series is all about the jeans, I could not pass up this bell sleeve jacket when we are talking about the new shape of denim.  And although it is a jacket, I did wear it tucked into the waistband like a top because this style of jeans just dictates that your top must be fitted or at least tucked in, you need to add the shape there you know?  For the silhouette to work.

And last, just a quick nod to the bag.  Cheap and most certainly cheerful.  And I have this thing with straw baskets…  in my home, on my arm…

And not least, thanks to my mum who stepped up to the plate, with the husband working away on the sole sunny day this week had to offer, and her blossoming photography skills.  She would counter with some self depreciating comment about having a lot of direction and just pressing the button but we all know there is a lot more to it than that.  Mama done good.x

Thanks – I never thought to tuck a jacket in before but surprisingly it didn’t bother me and was really pretty comfortable and, most importantly, looked good with the jeans haha!
