Basics – the principles of layering

insta-25-3-2

Somehow the start of the year is always about the basics for me.  Stripes, chunky knits, denim, all the usual suspects on constant rotation and layered up because it’s still cooooold.  Boden and Gap are my go-to’s for no brainer January style and now Gap has arrived on Zalando (one of my fav online stores with free delivery – surely the only way anyone wants to shop in January?) – win.

My principles of layering are simple – turn it upside down.  A little bit of topsy turvy makes things more interesting.  So, cardi over jacket just for a change, lace up shoes over jeans just because and watch over cuffs…  it’s the details that otherwise just get lost in the cold.

We spent the weekend in the North, walking about the wilds of Scotland with the dogs and thawing out by the fire in the local pub with whiskeys and a scone, debating ‘top or bottom?’ (of the scone obviously) and celebrating our wedding anniversary.  Happy six years husband!x

those shoes *heart* so so beautiful! Winter is all about layers for me too! Nothing better than keeping warm in a snuggly cardigan/jumper! Happy Anniversary too x
