Creating a fall back formula

We all have a fall back formula.  Ten years ago mine was jeans paired with a breton and, truth be told, to this day that would be absolutely ok with me for a day to day fashion crisis.  But when I need something a little ‘extra’ the culottes step in.  Something about that high waist and wide leg just fits me (in the metaphorical sense).  They were not on trend when I first fell in love and I am not honestly sure they are on trend now but there was almost certainly a period in the middle when they were just about the coolest thing.  Well, I am still riding that wave.

Good shoes and a good bag and a little Zimmermann won’t hurt either.  The crucial thing about my culottes fall back formula is creating a waist.  I can tuck something in or knot something up or belt something at the waist but I need that shape for it to work.

The reason you need to create your formula is that when you find yourself feeling completely stuck for ideas or running out the door with two minutes to pull something together, that formula is always right there for you to fall back on.  And anything that makes life easier is worth investing in if you ask me.  So look through old photos, try on everything in your closet, do whatever it takes to figure out your failsafe and invest in it.  And have those pieces on hand, ready to go – heck, you don’t even need a mirror when you have a formula.  You.  Just.  Know.

So, you might well be wondering what thrilling aspect of my life warranted outfit uncertainty and falling back on the formula?  A visit to the paint store.  Yes, I am indeed of an age where I get pretty excited about a full rainbow wall of colour samples…  Don’t you?

Love your statement earrings and that’s such a pretty eyelet top! 🙂

My go to formula is usually denim – shorts or jeans depending on the season, ha! Not as fashion forward as yours 🙂

Hope that you are having a great week so far! I’ve lost my voice so it’s an interesting week for me, ha!
