Three key looks for a capsule maternity wardrobe

It is no secret that throughout both my pregnancies I focus, where possible, on making regular clothes work for me.  BUT (and yes, it’s a big but) there are certain maternity pieces really worth investing in.  I would never advocate buying a completely new wardrobe, however, provided you shop smart there are some really key choices that not only go the distance as far as the whole nine months are concerned and that I guarantee you will wear again and again and again.

This week saw Isabella Oliver launch their new autumn/winter collection and I am so delighted to partner with them and share some of my favourites with you.  I personally love the brand and wore a couple of their pieces last time around (and then rewore them again this pregnancy too) – the fabrics are always brilliant quality and the fit is perfect.   They are proud to be an environmentally, ethically and socially conscious brand and kicked off the new season with a  Re-love, Re-purpose, Recycle’ scheme – customers can send any maternity clothing (doesn’t have to be Isabella Oliver) that they no longer need/want and, in return, they will offer a £20 gift voucher to spend on either Isabella Oliver or Baukjen.  Items sent to them will undergo quality control allowing them to decide if they can be donated to charity or sent to a clothing recycling bank and any good quality Isabella Oliver clothing will be sold via the ‘Pre-Loved’ section on their website at a reduced price.  Such a brilliant initiative!

I decided to focus this post on the three looks from the AW collection that I consider key to a maternity wardrobe and I really hope you love them as much as I do.  If you fancy picking up any pieces for yourself Isabella Oliver have kindly offered 20% off with the code THANKFIFI20 too**.

Ok, ok, let’s get to it…  you know I am a huge fan of leather leggings and this pair are amazing (under the bump which I find so much more comfortable, especially in the later months).  Truly such a versatile piece for any wardrobe because you can essentially wear them as trousers or, as I so often do, in place of tights in the colder months.  Cuff them up and under for ankle length with heels or sneakers or wear them long and tucked into boots.  Leather trousers are always going to be an investment but one you will absolutely get your money’s worth out of.  Here I matched them with a leopard print top which is such a flattering cut over the bust and belly (which is sizeable now right?!) and I must admit I got a lotta love for those balloon sleeves.

Scroll down for the other looks – I would love to know which is your favourite…

If you buy one dress just make it this one.  It works with heeled boots and blazers, it works with sneakers and cropped knits, it works just wonderfully all by itself and because the button detail goes the full length of the front you could even wear it mostly undone over those leather leggings.  The fabric is just the perfectly swishable weight and it is honestly so easy to wear…

My final look is more casual and, erm, yep those leather leggings again (sorry not sorry).  You truly cannot go wrong with a breton stripe and it is always worth investing in one or two really great quality tees that you are going to wash and wear a hundred times throughout these months.  The slightly longer length just makes these stripes so simple to mix into your wardrobe (honestly one of my bug bears is maternity clothing that just is not quite long enough come month eight) and a breton like this br is always such a classic I really do not think you can go wrong.

So there you have it – which of the three looks do you like best?
