What once began as Hunter’s nursery has been reinvented and has become Summer’s bedroom – full of flowers and joy and oh so pretty – she is so chuffed to have a wee space of her own after putting in a two year shift in the bunkroom with her brother.
I will confess that this room became a storage space during the renovation so, whilst I gathered ideas, the most overwhelming job of all felt like clearing it out… that was, however, before I naively tackled wallpapering a one hundred year old ceiling with angles in the eaves and the dormer… there was wallpaper paste in the hair, some choice words and even decoupage of flowers in the wallpaper to hide one particularly hideous, mismatched join. But we got there.
Some before and afters below for your scrolling pleasure…

THE PAPER AND THE PAINT
I knew I wanted to cover every surface in florals and just fell in love with Little Greene’s Broadwick Street wallpaper. Given the choice or blue or green, Summer chose ‘Garden’ and requested also her favourite pink to be included in the room. Mischief proved to be the perfect shade and I picked up a sweet little bobbin bedside table, gave it a good sand, three thin coats of pink and a new brass knob to tie it in with the bed hardware.
THE BED
The bed itself had to work HARD so after many hours searching for the perfect day bed to fill the window end of the room, Ikea’s Hemnes came up trumps with the triple drawer storage as well as the option to transform into a double bed (same level) for guests. It received the same sanding, priming and painting treatment (Little Greene’s Intelligent Eggshell is the one for the job – tried and tested on the DIY built in bunkbeds a couple years back) and I could not be happier with the outcome.
We are both just smitten with the floral bedding by Wee Blue Bell – the most gorgeous new kids’ brand founded by some very good friends (including Fi of Bluebellgray for those of you who have been around long enough to know the connection).

THE WARDROBE
The wardrobe was inherited eight years ago from friends and has been through a couple of transformations in her time but this one is my favourite. I painted in the same Apple shade, papered with offcuts, added a tiny, sweet bobbin trim (nod to the bedside table) and finished with the matching brass knobs (the full process captured on film here).

THE DECOR
The finishing touches were mostly repurposed from the nursery or other parts of the house, save the scallop rug (a bit of a bargain find) and the curtain and blind which caused my poor mum, aka seamstress, many a sleepless night but came together so beautifully in the end.
I really ummed and ahhed over how to create a bed nook in such a small and awkward space but the curtain and little pelmet just finished the bed space and gave it purpose – there is a matching, relaxed Roman blind in the window too but, alas, I didn’t capture it here… and somehow, what was previously the tiny room we shut the door firmly on, has become the room that brings me the biggest joy when I peek in as I go up the stairs.
I hope you like it too.
