Now and again I feel like I take a step into a space that just feels so right – breathtakingly beautiful and yet homely, there’s something about the vibe of a place that either fits with you or not. After one night at Polperro, I felt entirely synched with the beautiful Australian countryside; and the husband agreed, this was just the most incredible place.
I eventually came across this newly opened boutique winery with just 4 villas after a search for ‘beautiful winery Melbourne’ on Pinterest. The photos sold me but even then, stepping into our villa it took my breath away…
Open the door to step into the soft jazz floating through the villa which is just cool enough to refresh you but just warm enough to notice the faint scent of the natural wood and beautiful candles. Collect your cheese board from the fridge and pour yourself a glass of homegrown red before deciding between hiding out on the decking surrounded by roses, overlooking the vineyard or taking your blanket for a picnic down under the old gum tree and watching the sun set over the grapes.
Make yourself a fire and fill the sunken jacuzzi bath, turn on the waterfall pebble wall and gaze out the panoramic windows. Wrap yourself in one of the robes from the old trunk and snuggle down together on the leather sofa whilst you have a leaf through the xl Mornington Peninsula book full of beautiful images of scenery and food and wine.
Feeling a little peckish again you can take a stroll through the vines, past Archie the dog and up to the winery for a tasting in the most intimate cellar door followed by a seat in the restaurant on a fluffy sheepskin and be prepared to be presented with a menu almost impossible to choose from (but when you do I can highly recommend the parmesan churros, T-bone for 2 and all the sides your most wonderful waitress will suggest – I doubt you could go wrong).
Climb into bed with a smile on your face and choose your mattress setting (70 gave the perfect firmness for a blissful night’s sleep). Don’t let the blinds down because when the sun rises, up through those panoramic windows over the rows of vines stretching away into the distance, you don’t want to miss it.
Treat yourself to breakfast in bed all ready and waiting in the kitchen and all that’s left to do is decide when you’re coming back. Because you know you’re coming back.
