Imagine the storm outside, waves lashing against the rocks and wind whipping round the coast… and imagine being here, looking out from the sauna through floor to ceiling picture windows, with a blanket of tiny stars blinking through the hot wood above your head.
This place is Portavadie – a little slice of heaven on the West of Scotland, Argyll’s secret coast. Come for the day (just two hours from Glasgow and only £12 for a leisure day pass including a dip in the biggest infinity pool in Scotland), or stretch it out for a long weekend and visit that infinity pool and warm yourself in that outdoor spa pool after each and every soggy, chilled to the bone trudging through stunning scenery, dog walk you go on. Heck, go on an extra walk so you can dip into that heated outdoor pool just one more time… Treat yourself to a full body aromatherapy Ishga massage and wrap yourself in a big fluffy robe.
Gorge yourself on local oysters and hand dived scallops in the marina restaurant or get the full on home from home treatment with a big ol’ bowl of mac’n’cheese by the open fire in the lodge. Drink hot chocolates and gaze out through the glass at the yachts bobbing in the water and watch the last of the pink sun disappear behind clouds and dip down under the horizon.
Get cosy in your cottage looking out to sea, go all out at the couple’s retreat (even dog friendly!) or toast yourself in your luxury apartment’s private sauna suite… You know that feeling you get when you’ve been out in the wilds (aka Scotland in February) and your fingers and toes and legs start to ache, no, sting with the cold? If the doctor prescribed a medicine for that, it would be this place. It’s like a great big hug for mind, body and soul.
Only two hours away but feeling a million miles from anywhere; the most perfect winter escape…
What a wonderful looking place. I love the raw look of the coast line, it reminds me of the eastern coast of Canada.

No unfortunately not, just the outside terrace and some of the accomodation – but there are plenty of walks to tire them out on!x
