Bon weekend

Just another lesson in layering…  it is that time of year where honestly more than one coat is almost compulsory.  The advantages, in my opinion, of multiple outer layers versus multiple inner layers mainly being that as soon as you step inside, into what will invariably be an overheated room, you can shed those outer layers and immediately acclimatise.  Whilst my mum seems to be most comfortable indoors in a knitted polo neck coupled with a woollen jumper and no doubt a vest underneath it all, my indoor optimal body temperature seems be be achieved with a single layer sweatshirt.  We discussed this and I concluded it must be an age thing (sorry mum).

Today’s pairing comes in the form of the ultimate high low mix – a toscana shearling coat (a lifer; I will be wearing this beauty for decades) that may well be the most expensive thing I own coupled with this checked trench* which I picked up in the Asos sale for a little over twenty bucks.  My instagram poll suggested opinion was divided on the mac but, aside from its initial questionable plasticky smell (eradicated with this first airing by the way), I rather like it and it works equally well belted over leather bikers and, later, alone for spring.

In other news, today is our ninth wedding anniversary, and whilst we save any major plans of celebration for the big one next year (I mean, it is going to have to be a pretty epic ski holiday – remember the wedding?) we have big ideas of…  staying in.  There was talk of a fondue restaurant which quickly got moved to Saturday night because Friday nights are a no go, which was then edited to be a lunch because who really wants to drive into town on a Saturday night and then we thought maybe a lunch at the local Cairn would be even lovelier – so, yes, the same thing we do every weekend.  We like what we like.  That being said, I am going to bake a traditional tartiflette (recipe here) in honour of the day and the husband did just head off for work with the parting suggestion, ‘I was thinking tonight for our anniversary we could just go straight to bed?’.  It is not what you think…  and I am one hundred percent on board.  But if you can’t get an indecently early night on your anniversary when can you?
