The September 5

Shop, cook, watch, read, wear… my September favourites are all about embracing the new season, the drop in temperature, the change in colours and getting things in order…

SHOP

These leather leggings have changed my life.  I will not lie to you, they are not cheap for what is essentially a faux leather but, and I do not say this lightly, they might just be even better.  The fit and feel is incredible and you can machine wash them.  I did not realise that they were in fact shape-wear until they arrived but, after shoehorning myself into the size small (I ordered medium too but I suggest sticking to your regular size because they do form to your shape after one wear), my eyes were opened.  They are super comfy, wonderfully supple, stretchy, warm, possess magical powers for delivering confidence around your mid section and just the most gorgeous shade for autumn.  Yes, often people think I am naked from the waist down (especially when I wear them with boots – see exhibit A) but I do not care – these babies are going to be key in my cold season wardrobe.  A black pair are on my wishlist already…

They sell out fast so I have linked on Selfridges as well as Amazon below.

COOK

This roasted pumpkin salad with goat’s cheese, pomegranate and honeyed walnuts recipe by Melanie Lionello combines many of my favourite flavours and I cannot wait to try it.  I found it on Pinterest and am pretty hopeful it might just fill the gap that summer salads leave in my lunchtime repertoire…

WATCH

Covid really did a number on the airing of many of my favourite shows.  But this month Billions season 5 (part 2) arrived on our screens (via Now TV and Sky) and I could not be happier to spend my evenings with Chuck’s breathy metaphors and the suggestion of a romance between Wendy and Axe…

The show follows hedge fund manager Bobby Axelrod (Axe) as he accumulates wealth and power in the world of high finance with tactics that are rarely above board.  With the ongoing game of cat and mouse between Axe and United States Attorney Chuck Rhoades, Billions is tense, exciting and naturally already had a top spot on my ‘Long ‘Edge of the seat’ Watching’ section on The Ultimate List of Binge Worthy TV – trust me when I tell you this show is goooood.

READ

‘One money expert explains how to improve your finances’ – I found this article by Emilie Bellet on Sheerluxe so interesting.  It might not be fun to take a deep dive into your finances but it pays to take a look at saving smart now – whether that be for those much longed for holidays (perhaps now again on the horizon) or to start or contribute to your pension (I am a little embarrassed to say I only set up my pension at the age of thirty-eight but better late than never right?).

Emilie says ‘Start with the basics: the numbers.  It can be scary to confront them at first, but you need to know how much money you have, how much you earn monthly, and how much you spend.’

There are so many great nuggets of information (I am currently scanning my online statement in search of direct debits I can cancel and save instead) in the article, I already have the full book in my online basket…

WEAR

I am working on a big ol’ list of autumn essentials but this week I have been floored with a nasty cold and living in loungewear.  We also spent a bit of time in Fife on the beach (read my Elie travel guide here) this month and I just kept reaching for the same pieces again and again – cosy, comfy, good quality, practical…  this knitted sweatshirt by Varley is just beautiful and feels quite put together, a little more elevated than regular sportswear, for the nursery run.  It comes in a bunch of great colour options all with gorgeous gold hardware.

I also invested in this waterproof jacket from Sweaty Betty (currently on sale – though not when I bought it – humph) and it has been a really smart buy.  It keeps me dry whilst indulging my craving for a chic silhouette with the balloon sleeves…  even better, they zip off to elbow length which is perfect for my tennis.  Win, win (in the clothing department at least).
