Over the past years tennis has become a huge part of my life, from playing the game to joining the team and, ultimately, making a wonderful group of friends. Our annual Christmas night out fell by the wayside due to busy calendars but, last week, we put that right and I hosted possibly the most niche party ever.
Whilst a tennis party is not exactly a universal theme, it brought me so much joy putting this one together that I had to share it. One thing I have learnt about myself is that I am an all or nothing kind of girl (see the DIY 12 seater sofa project) and this was no different…

The coach donated a bucketload of old balls, the club loaned the vintage scoreboards, Rouje came in with the perfect Wimbledon worthy dress and I… went to town.

We ran with the ‘match tea’ idea – a British tennis tradition, following a league match against a visiting team, the home team hosts a tea party in the clubhouse. Each player brings a plate to be enjoyed together when all the games are finished. Though this is a beautiful concept, many of the matches are played on school nights and finish well past 9pm (often a 45 minute drive away) so really, it’s often not ideal timing for a sit down tea party.
This, on the other hand, was 7pm on a Friday night, with cocktails – everyone brought their A game with a savoury or sweet dish and it was so much fun. You can catch a peek at the night in action here and some behind the scenes shots of it all coming together here.
Here’s hoping all the new season scoreboards look like these ones…
