You know I’m a creature of habit. I like what I like. And I like beaches. And this beach, this weekend, just shot waaaaay up my list.
We found ourselves in Aberdeen for the weekend for a project, more on that later, and naturally I scoured the www for sand. Balmedie beach came up trumps (somehow even that saying has weird connotations now! Just me?) and we made the trip there to be greeted with acres of rolling dunes covered in beachgrass and white sands. I know now there’s a boardwalk to the shore but climbing the dunes is so much more fun… You weave your way up and over and round about and finally emerge on what feels like the edge of the world – the most vast, white, serene beach that goes on for mile upon mile, edged with a cliff of sand banks.
We walked for hours before turning back and finally finding a sheltered spot amongst the dunes which are so high your can surf down them into one of the giant bowls. It’s a barefoot beach, you know, the kind of sand that’s so warm and soft your toes start crying if you keep them in shoes? This place is so beautiful it’s almost surreal…
In other news, me and neck scarves are having something of a moment and this Bianca Elgar one is currently vying with this Boden one to be surgically attached…
