5 summer skincare heroes – all for £50

Paid partnership with Boots

I feel like I should preface this post with a disclaimer – ok, I will level with you, I am no beauty pro.  I do not have shelves lined with lotions and potions and the few very special jars in velvet boxes are just that, sleeping beauties in their little cocoons just waiting…  I fear I may never be brave enough to be their Prince Charming.  Fancy skincare scares me.

Here is what I do know – my skin is sensitive, it is prone to being dry and it loves the sun (well, maybe it is me who loves the sun).  But I know what works for me and protected, moisturised, really clean skin is my priority.

Boots invited me to be a part of their ‘Summer Skin At Home’ campaign and I was delighted to discover they stocked all best skincare products including my everyday favourites so here goes – I will break it down into two sections – my suncare and my general summer skincare.

SUMMER SUNCARE

My mindset on sun damage has really changed over recent years.  I want to be honest with you and say that my skin tans really well – I am one of those annoying people that will slightly apologetically tell you it is genetics (thanks Dad).  I have no idea why it took me so long to realise that skin will tan perfectly well through SPF (yes Mum, I know you tried to tell twenty year old me…).  We all know the sun can be so damaging but it can also be healing – I would spend a little time in the sun every single day if I could but, you know, Scottish weather often has other ideas.  I want to take care of my skin, protect it from the harmful rays and not look like an old leather handbag by the time I hit sixty.

Ambre Solaire Ultra-Hydrating Shea Butter Sun Protection Cream SPF30
I have two SPF heroes because body and face need something a little different.  I save here and splurge, just a little, on the other.  I have been a fan of Ambre Solaire SPF for well over a decade and I slather this all over my body at regular intervals, yes, even in Scotland.

Bioderma Photoderm Aquafluide SPF50+
I reserve this for my face, neck and décolletage because, in my opinion, those are the areas that need really special care and, honestly, considering this is such a high factor it really is exceptional – glides on and absorbs perfectly with no chalky residue.

Scroll down for my skincare heroes…

The Boots skincare section is something to be admired – in fact there are almost two thousand products on there so I have no doubt you can likely find your favourites as well as some new treats.  But, as I mentioned, I am no beauty connoisseur.  I like simple products that work really well and, as my title suggests, when I totalled up my five heroes they came in just under £50 which I think is pretty good going for my summer skin ‘menu’.

EVERYDAY SUMMER SKINCARE

My day to day routine is all about the moisture.  I drink a LOT of water (and decaf tea so weak you could basically call it hot water) and I moisturise often.  Whilst I can consume gallons of water, my skin does not get on great with the wet stuff…  each and every time I shower or even wash my hands I moisturise.

Apricot & Honey Aveeno Daily Moisturising Yogurt Body Cream
Aveeno is a brand I have used on my children since birth but I was introduced to the full range of products at the start of the year and it is now an absolute staple for me.  This body cream is my summer go to because it absorbs so perfectly without any greasiness and the scent is just heavenly – it really is a treat for my dry, and often sensitive, skin.

Bioderma Sensibio H2O micellar Water
At the end of the day I use this micellar water to remove any makeup or dirt (yep, dirt – how and why does my face attract this?).  This stuff is so pure and I love that it is a leave on product – any excuse to avoid washing my face and drying my skin more than I need to…

The Ordinary 100% Organic Cold Pressed Rose Hip Seed Oil
Finally, my wildcard.  Oil.  On my face.  Rewind five years and I could not have imagined anything more obtuse but the middle aged me has been educated (just a little) and I have a done a 360 on facial oils.  Truly, find a good one and you will not look back.  This one is the absolute best on a budget if you ask me – so silky and it targets signs of photo-ageing – your face will thank you.

So there we have it – my five summer skincare heroes – they are not super fancy and you will not need to remortgage if you want to try them but they really do work.

I really like your five summer skincare heroes and I particularly like Bioderma Photoderm Aquafluide SPF50+. I play a lot of tennis so I am out in the sun quite a bit and I too use this for my face and neck.
