How to create a grown up drinks corner

Oh boy, one day, ONE DAY, this room will get finished.  But at least for now I am one step closer.  The grown up drinks corner is born…

The truth is that I have had my heart set on a circular drinks trolley for some time now (in fact I considered ordering one for the husband’s Christmas last year*) and when this opportunity came up with Houseology it was the first thing I searched for.  Well, bingo.  With a toddler in the house (woah, a toddler, seriously?  Time?  Where did you go?) our open shelving at tiny person height in the family room had to be reworked and new homes found for the grown up tipples.  I set eyes on the Ethan fixed drinks trolley, part of their own Houseology Collection, and I just knew.  He is a sturdy chap, in fact he weighs a tonne, and so very dapper with his gold frame and solid matt marble.  Surely the most crucial component of your drinks corner has to be the trolley itself and honestly he is beautiful.  I styled him minimally with a shelf each for our favourites, some beautiful blooms, vintage crystal glasses and that teeny, tiny cutting block.  The key with an open bar cart is to be selective I think, with only your favourite drinks on show, don’t be tempted to overcrowd it.  Remind me of that at Christmas time…

The Elana floor lamp and the Burley antique mirror just finish the corner so perfectly.  I mean all bloggers are fans of big mirrors right?  But this one is a stunner with the metal grid effect and he is just so BIG the room instantly feels twice the size.  I may or may not eventually hang him on the wall but for now, as a leaner, in the adults only room, he is safe (as are the husband’s carefully guarded, naked plaster walls).

So yeah, another armchair might be handy sometime soon.  I adore this one but damn it is the most aesthetically pleasing and simultaneously uncomfortable chair in the world.  Perhaps I will gift the husband a mid century pink pair for Christmas (see the note below).  I am working on it.  I mean, right now, this is really just a grown up drinks corner for one.  But you know what?  This one loves it.

*Top tip – if you really want something for your home that you are not 100% sure your other half will be into just buy it for him as a gift.  He will be polite and gracious and you will have your dog shaped floor lamp or your pink linen bedding or whatever it is that you need.  FYI the husband does in fact love this drinks trolley, maybe even more than I do – he has a whole shelf to himself for his whisky after all.
