After living with our ‘new’ shower room looking like this for fourteen months the time has finally come to get this room ticked off the project list. Perhaps my friend messaging last month to share the news that she would be visiting at the beginning of April with her family of six spurred me on somewhat… one functional bathroom between ten might be a bit of a stretch. The thing I have found is that deadlines work wonders for the motivation.
Although I have been saving images and ideas for quite some time, eventually a cohesive moodboard has been pulled together and, although some tweaking to the budget still needs to take place, work starts in two weeks…
The room is small and somewhat awkward with a couple of nooks and crannies to be navigated but I think we have some elegant solutions. Take a look at the moodboard and please let me know if you have seen any similar lighting options because I have literally just discovered that my top choice, featured below, is not IP rated…
MOODBOARD DETAILS
guild countertop basin – Burlington
linton basin mixer – Cast Iron Bath Company
linen beige wallpaper – Graham & Brown
zelda pendant – Hinkley Lighting
pulpis slab – Neolith
lavender & white bejmat tile – Otto
ballerina radiator – Vogue
calder shower – Cast Iron Bath Company
This is where we are right now and, yes, the toilet is functional but has been saved for emergencies only so far. We laid the underfloor heating just before the end of 2023 and have pretty much been using the space as a store for our tools thus far.
Scroll down for some colour and material inspiration – I love that edge to edge alcove mirror, the framed shower enclosure with tile trim details and am very into the chocolate and cream colour schemes…

Because one side of the room finished under the stairs we have this strange little nook which I think lends itself very nicely to a shower seat (but not the kind your granny has). We could box it up but the space is not accessible from the other side so, really, it would have been a waste. Although there is not the head height to stand in there, I think the seat offers a bit more breathing space and, hopefully, a really nice feature.

And because half the room was originally a hall we have this unique alcove for the sink area which used to be our back door and I think is a really natural opportunity for a feature being that it is the first view you have of the shower room when you open the door from the hall. I still have some of my favourite tiles, left over from the garden project, and am so excited to include them in this scheme (as well as on the stair riser in our conversation pit – coming along by the way).
I can see it in my mind’s eye and I just hope it turns out the way I hope… it is a tricky little room with no natural light so I am trying to lean into that with the darker moodier colours, the practicality of the Neolith slabs (we have them as kitchen worktops and LOVE them) and some textural touches with the bejmat tiles and brass fixtures.
Would love to know what you think…
