3 spring essentials for any budget

Spring is teasing me.  There have been a few delicious moments where the temperatures have peaked in the double digits and I do not need any more encouragement than that to dig the basket bag out and brave the open toes.

I feel like spring brings with her an optimism, perhaps this year even more so, and a willingness to delve into the depths of my wardrobe to dig out those long lost whites and anything with a hint of straw (oh yes, the straw hat has indeed already made an appearance).  Accessories can really pull a basic look into a certain season so I have pulled together three of my favourites for the new season and found some options to hopefully suit any budget…

THE BASKET BAG

A lifelong classic – can you even imagine a year when the basket bag would not be chic?  I have had mine for a looong time and I still reach for her as soon as that spring sun starts shining.  The Chloe is the ultimate dream of course but, I will be honest here and say, I am not sure dropping that kind of money on a basket is a good investment – the nature of straw means it is not as durable as a leather bag would be.  The Lily & Bean option seems, to me, like the smart option and the gold initial monogramming is the clincher.  I could not find one identical to mine but was delighted when this guy popped up because fifty quid for a basket bag with genuine leather trim is a great find.

THE LEATHER WRAP BELT

Ok, yes, I have given three options but in my mind there is one clear winner here.  I have not had this wrap belt off since it arrived.  For reference, the sizing is quite different to that of the Marant version – I have the small in the Mango one with plenty leather ‘tail’ left over but I believe the Marant Lecce belt is a considerably neater fit.

For me, this is an ultimate wardrobe staple and if you are in the market for some styling ideas I just shared this ‘Knot belt – 7 ways’ video.

THE CLOGS

Not usually one to blow my own trumpet but I may have been ahead of the curve here because I have had my clog sandals waiting in the wings since last summer…  and now they are big news.  A far cry from the white wooden soled clogs I clopped around in twenty years ago, my current choice are Fitflop so super cushioned and comfy.  I am honestly considering a closed toe pair to wear with socks or would that be a step too far?

In other news, I am so happy to have MrK make a brief return to the screen here.  Whilst he is enjoying a slower pace of life these days, he is a happy ol’ boy and, as we happened to snap these images mid dog walk, he indulged me.

Totally agree re. the basket bags – but really all you need is one great one! I’m considering selling all mine and investing in that Lily & Bean one… I love it so much

Ooh I hope you love them as much as I do! I’m tempted by the closed toe ones too for wearing with little ankle socks – v into that 70’s vibe right now
