A trip back to Malaysia today for a final post from the land of heat, humidity, beauty and great memories. There were the shopping malls and the sky scrapers and the Petronas Twin Towers and moments snuck by the pool and stumbling across Kuala Lumpur Fashion Week. There was the market at Chinatown the most incredible street food…
And there were beautiful mosques and carriage rides around Independence Square and the temples, oh the most beautiful Chinese temple, and there was the old town of Melaka, town of terracotta walls and the most intense heat and a visual library of perfect pastel doorways. There were icecreams enjoyed with old friends and deep fried frogs tried by new friends. And there was the KL Bird Park and my holiday romance with watermelon juice…
And there were the views. Pina coladas enjoyed a thousand feet up and the bright lights of a city that doesn’t turn off. And there was the Royal Selangor Pewter Factory where I forged my own jewellery and the stairway to the Batu Caves with that monkey that stole my water bottle and the most enormous golden man you ever did see (Lord Murugan)…
And then there was Langkawi; the island of white sands and turquoise waters and I didn’t want to leave. There was the cable car ride high up over the forest and we could see Thailand and Indonesia from up there and there was The Danna, the most beautiful hotel I’ve ever seen. And we discovered local designer Tom Abang Saufi (and here) and we topped it all off with a sunset cruise around the bays…
And every moment was magical. The hugest thank you to Tourism Malaysia for hosting such an unforgettable trip and to my fellow travellers for making it all that it was.x
